Chaska High School has hired a couple new head coaches for the upcoming prep sports seasons.
Baseball players will need no introduction to the Hawks’ new head coach, Eric Welter.
Welter grew up playing ball in Chaska, and starred for the Hawks before moving on to the University of Minnesota.
A Social Studies teacher and assistant baseball coach for 10 years at Chaska, Welter currently is a top player for the Chaska Cubs amateur baseball team.
“I could not think of a better guy for the job,” Stein said. “Eric exemplifies leadership, knowledge and dedication to the Chaska baseball community.”
Eric takes over the Hawk program from his father, Dale, a longtime Hawk coach who was inducted in to the Minnesota Coaches' Hall of Fame in 2005. Stein shared duties with Dale as co-coach of the Hawks for the past two seasons, finishing with a consolation title at the state Class 3A tournament in June.
“This completes one of the best baseball coaching staffs in the state of Minnesota,” Stein added. “We are proud to have Eric at the helm of this very rich baseball community.
Soccer coach
The Hawks also have a new coach for the fall season, as Hisham Sorour will take over as the new head coach of boys soccer.
He is also a familiar face to the Hawks, as he coached the Chaska girls team from 2000 to 2004.
“Hisham came to us with glowing recommendations and absolutely enlightened us in the interview process.” Stein said. “Hisham has a lifetime and wealth of soccer experience and will serve
as an outstanding leader of our soccer program.
