The newest president of the Chanhassen Historical Society was born for the role. Paula Atkins, 53, grew up in Chanhassen, the proud progeny of the Roeser/Jorissen and Schneider/Notermann families.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted bank robbery at TCF Bank in Chanhassen on Monday.
According to Sheriff Bud Olson, the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. Displaying guns, two robbery suspects approached employees who were opening the bank. An employee prevented the suspects from entering the bank by securing the door, according to a Chanhassen Crime Alert.

I feel the need to respond to the August 24, 2010 article written by David Peterson in the Star Tribune which in my estimation did not give the entire picture regarding the current debate over the provision of transit services in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.

'Possible suspect' in recent burglaries remains at large
Burglaries and thefts have been occurring in Chanhassen since mid-August, and the local law enforcement community is calling them "crimes of opportunity" because in each case the perpetrators targeted unlocked and open doors.
Chanhassen Dinner Theatres and Stevie Ray's Comedy Troupe will be at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair. The dinner theater exhibit is in the upper grandstand center quadrant.
The Monday, Aug. 23, Chanhassen City Council meeting has been canceled. Instead, councilors will meet for an extended work session, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Carver County Sheriff's Lt. Jim Olson has temporarily stepped away from his job as liaison officer at Chanhassen City Hall.
Notice the Olson for Sheriff campaign signs that have been popping up around town.
He has been temporarily replaced, effective Monday, Aug. 16, by Sgt. Pete Anderley, who held the liaison position for about 17 months from mid-2007 to 2009. The Chanhassen City Council upgraded the liaison position from a Sgt. to a Lt. in 2009.
Absent Councilor Bryan Litsey, who was giving South Lake Minnetonka Police Department budget presentations before the Shorewood and Tonka Bay City Councils, the Chanhassen City Council during their Monday evening work session discussed the city’s 2011 budget in greater detail than at any time yet this year.
“We’re sticking to the process that we’ve done for the past 10 years,” said City Manager Todd Gerhardt.
The Chanhassen Recreation Center will be CLOSED for maintenance beginning Friday, Aug. 20, and will reopen for business on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The gymnasium will close starting Monday, Aug. 16, and will also reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The Chanhassen City Council on Monday could reject a request by Don Halla to move his electronic message sign away from its current location on Pioneer Trail and Highway 101.
Revenues in the city are on target, according to a memo from Greg Sticha, city finance director, to the Chanhassen City Council.
Residents of Chanhassen and Carver County will be admitted to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for free (with proof of residency) on Friday, Aug. 6, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The city has released estimated costs for proposed street reconstruction projects through 2015. City Councilors are scheduled to discuss the matter on Monday, July 26, at the City Council work session meeting.
The Chanhassen City Council on July 12 appointed election judges and established their pay.
The list of people who will serve was compiled by the city after consulting with local political parties, considering those who have served in the past, and those who have expressed interest.
Head judges will be paid $10 per hour; assistant head judges $9 per hour; judges $8 per hour; and a Chanhassen woman named Joanne Meuwissen $12 per hour.
